Google Voice is Coming Back to iPhone!

image Few months ago, Apple reject Google Voice app and all the third party apps that use its API. Google Voice service offers for free a local phone number for free to its subscriber and reroutes all calls to this number along with many other convenient services. This effort could make wireless carrier somewhat irrelevant beside bandwidth pipe and could disturb greatly existing business models.

Despite the FCC inquiries to all parties, nothing has changed since. Google announced it would come back with a Web-based version that runs within Safari browser.

Now time has come.. Google is calling for Beta tester for its app called Black Swan Edition.

The web-based version reportedly is using extensively HTML5 to achieve all the features mimicking the client app. And this could pave the way in the future that app developer embrace to avoid the scrutiny of Apple app approval process   .

The the private beta site has a small survey about how willing you are should they charge for it. Take a look at the demo.

YouTube Debuts Its URL Shortener http://youtu.be

After Google (goo.gl) and Facebook (fb.me), it is YouTube turn to  have its own URL shortener. http://youtu.be.

imageYou might wonder why it’s all the rage? of course the URL shortener reduces the length of your link. But more importantly, public URL shorteners are no longer safe safe, only a handful of them offer review to avoid malicious destinations. By offering URL shorteners, prominent services such Google, YouTube, Facebook could restore the trust and they can also track the clicks and its destination in real-time.

To use youtu.be manually, simply take a URL like http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FdeioVndUhs and replace the "http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=" with "http://youtu.be/" to get: http://youtu.be/FdeioVndUhs Plug that shorter URL into a browser, and you’ll see it redirects to that video.

There is no Bookmarlet available at this time. Alternatively you can use http://lnk.by, (bookmarlet available) when you pasted the YouTube link, it creates http://WACH.it/ckL , pretty cool isn’t?

Intel Revealed Next Atom Processors.

imagein 2009, the netbook success caught chip maker by surprise. Evidently, to satisfy future demand, the follow-on product has been in the work and the result presented to the press last week.

The Intel Atom chip has been Omni-present on most netbooks on the market.  And the forthcoming Atom version, codenamed Pine Trail is scheduled to make its first appearance as early as next month at the Consumer Electronic Show.

While Pine Trail processors will not run faster than the current crop. The move of Graphic Processor Unit to the CPU core allows up to 60% reduction in size and 20% improvement in power consumption for the N450. For the D510 and D410, the figures are 50% and %70 respectively.

Processor Clockspeed (GHz) # of Cores Cache Memory Speed TDP (Thermal Design Power)
N450 1.66 1 512K DDR2-667 5.5W
D510 1.66 2 1M DDR2-800/667 13W
D410 1.66 1 512K DDR2-800/667 10W

The N450 is destined for Netbook, mainly with very low power consumption, while the D510 and D410 are aimed at nettop class of device.

"This is the first monolithic processor with the graphics built in and the memory controller built in," said Anil Nanduri, director, Netbook Marketing at Intel, in an interview. The size of the accompanying NM10 "I/O" chipset has also been reduced, Nanduri said.

To the consumer this means better battery life and thinner designs. "We’ll see sleeker designs coming into the market and longer battery life," said Nanduri, adding that average power consumption has dropped 20 percent over the previous generation of Atom technology.

New 3D Tech in Avatar Movie

image The most expensive movie ever made released this week. Avatar, directed by James Cameron. The production cost elevated to $300-$400 millions. In addition to worldwide promotional marketing expenses. Analysts believe the total break-even point would be in the $1 billion range.

The heart of Avatar production is the 3D experience that James Cameron tried to deliver. Stereoscopic moviemaking has historically been the novelty act of cinema. But Cameron sees 3D as a subtler experience. To film the live-action sequences of Avatar, he used a modified version of the Fusion camera. The new 3D camera creates an augmented-reality view for Cameron as he shoots, sensing its position on a motion-capture stage, then integrating the live actors into CG environments on the viewfinder. “It’s a unique way of shooting stereo movies,” says visual-effects supervisor Stephen Rosenbaum. “Cameron uses it to look into the environment; it’s not about beating people over the head with visual spectacle.” This immersive 3D brings a heightened believability to Avatar’s live-action sequences—gradually bringing viewers deeper into the exotic world of Pandora. In an early scene, Sully looks out the window as he flies over the giant trees and waterfalls of the jungle moon, and the depth afforded by the 3D perspective gives the planet mass and scale, making it as dizzyingly real for viewers as it is for him.
