The Tour de France, world’s best-known cycling race, a three week long road race that covers a circuit of most areas around France, and sometimes neighboring countries. The race is broken into stages from one town to another, each of which is an individual race. The time taken by cyclists to complete each stage becomes a cumulative total in order to decide the outright winner at the end of the Tour.
This year, the Tour starts Saturday July 3rd and runs through Sunday July 25th, TdF is now being featured in a new Bing Maps application, the Bing 2010 Tour de France map app. Fans of the race can preview the course of the race in a standard road view, an aerial view or even the awesome Bird’s Eye view. Along the course, pushpins indicate the start and finish points and waypoints like feed zones and hill climbs are also indicated. At the top of the map is an interactive chart that displays the various elevation and slope changes for the selected stage. You can also see weather predictions via the “Stages” tab on the left and daily results from the “Results” tab.
