The compact size, the lightweight of a point and shot camera make it a favorite device to carry around for any occasion photo taking. Unless you are outdoor or at places with decent lighting, taking good photo at low light has always been a challenge with theses devices.
I had an opportunity to use the Canon PowerShot S90 and I was blown out how well the device performs especially in very low light condition. Canon just released the PowerShot S95 to replace the already capable S90.. The device is a pocket-sized camera that offers a lot of professional features with additional features and enhancement of existing ones.
Granted, the Canon S90/S95 cost more than an average point and shot. You can find around $350. But you will be pleased with its performance while enjoying its simplicity for everyday photo-taking.
The main ingredient of its popularity is a huge CMOS sensor, which is similar to many DSLR cameras, coupled with 28-105mm zoom lens with fast maximum aperture of f/2.0 and ISO can go up to 3200 at full stills resolution that allow to take pictures at very low light, even in motion, e.g. in a night club or indoor party. Canon fits the f/2.0 lens to allow in twice as much light as a more standard issue f/2.8 aperture optic, allowing for faster shutter speeds and shallower depth of field (blurry background scenery).

“Like the S90, the S95′s identically ‘modest’ 10-megapixel sensor indicates that Canon is continuing to call a halt to the race for more megapixels in preference to improving said sensor’s ability to perform better at higher ISO settings…” Phography Blog
For serious photographers, who are looking for a capable compact, the new Canon S95 features improved handling and greater levels of manual control. The innovative lens Control Ring carried from the S90, which enables users to adjust the settings of various functions by twisting the selector at the base of the lens barrel to the left or right.
The S95 adds HD 720p video capture at 1280×720 pixels resolution available at 24fps complete with stereo sound. The video feature was lacking on the S90 model. Unfortunately the S95 does not offer continuous auto-focus during shooting and an external mic to make to my video tool kit. The S95 also adds the High Dynamic Range for high-contrast scene; HDR was one of the highlighted features of Apple iOS 4.1.
