Sony just introduced a mirror-less camera aiming to replace its predecessor Sony NEX-C3 and your incumbent DSLR as well. The camera is touted as the smallest and lightest interchangeable lens camera.

The NEX-F3 comes with a new grip on the body; a pop-up and angle-adjustable flash as well as a flip-up LCD screen in the back, the LCD can tilt up to a complete vertical position should you need to see you when taking self-portrait photo or video in front of the camera.

The device is using Sony second generation 16MP and DSLR-sized APS-C sensors; the NEX-F3 can take HD video in AVCHD 1080 in MP4 formats. You will find the Sony accessory port for an optional electronic viewfinder or a stereo microphone. The bundle includes the E-mount 18-55 kit lens. The optional 18-200mm lens with 11x zoom It will start shipping in July.

The camera features Auto Portrait Framing, which uses face detection and the rule of thirds to  trim the scene into an optimal composition while maintaining a copy of the original image.

Square, known for the credit card processing transaction app for the iPhone and Android phones, is expanding to full flesh point-of-sale solution on the iPad for small and mid size merchants with Square Register solution.

Square is aiming to replace expensive, complicated POS with a simple iPad and Square Register app  that can take credit card or cash payments. Full setup only takes an hour or less.

Samsung New Cheaper Galaxy 7” & 10” Tablets

A new wave of Android 4.0 powered tablets will hit the store shelves starting April 22nd, including 2 pair of 7” & 10.1” Samsung Galaxy Tablets.

The new tablets come with decent features and a low entry price point of $250 and $400 respectively. A whopping $50 price drop compared to its predecessors.

Asus is releasing an affordable tablet that can transform to a laptop with the optional keyboard dock. The 10.1” Asus Transformer will be using the quad-core Tegra 3 from NVidia.  Available in red, white or blue and in Wi-Fi, 3G and LTE versions, the Transformer Pad 300 runs Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, the price is starting at $399 with 32GB of storage and 1GB of memory, when it becomes available on April 22nd.

The standard battery lasts 10hrs, with an optional extended can elongate to 15hrs. The connectivity options include WiFi, 3G and 4G LTE.

HTC EVO 4G LTE (AKA HTC One X) is Coming To Sprint

HTC and Sprint just announced the HTC EVO 4G LTE, a variant of the HTC One X, will make its debut in this quarter for $199. This device is considered the successor of the Sprint EVO 4G on the carrier WiMax network that will be phased out and replaced by LTE, similar to Verizon and AT&T 4G network.

The 4.7” Android ICS smartphone will differ with the HTC One Global by its dual core Qualcomm 1.5GHz CPU instead of the NVidia tegra 3 quad core and a visual red band along with a built-in kickstand in the back.

The device features a 4.7” display with 1280×720 resolution  using the company exclusive Super LCD 2 display technology; 1GB of RAM; 16GB of memory, expandable up to 32 GB via microSD; 2000mAh battery. The 8MP rear-facing camera features HTC ImageChip, which allows photo taking in 0.7 seconds. the lens features f2.0 aperture. Nokia Lumia 900 Will Debut on April 8 For Only $99.99 (AT&T)

April 8 marks the big assault from Microsoft in an attempt for a market comeback. To usher this return Redmond giant will get help from Nokia and AT&T to launch the most anticipated Windows Smartphone, the Nokia Lumia 900, a high-end handset for under $100 with contract.

The 4G LTE enable Nokia features a 4.3-inch AMOLED ClearBlack display at 800 by 480 pixels. The device is using  polycarbonate casing in cyan blue or black color (the white version will come few weeks later); 8-MP rear camera equipped with Carl Zeiss lens plus dual LED flash. The lens sports f2.2/28mm aperture for better low-light shots. The camera supports video capture at 720p/30fps. There’s a second, front-facing camera for video chat, the front camera is a 1-MP with an f2.4 lens and 30fps capture. Video chat Tango app comes bundled with the device.

The latest iteration of Windows Phone will be added  Nokia Maps and Nokia Drive through the Windows Phone Marketplace. Nokia Drive offers free, turn-by-turn, voice-guided navigation everywhere.

Admit the uphill battle ahead, the three parties involved actually need badly for this phone to get enough mindshare to play among the greats.

All the ingredients are there including good hardware, good price, mature software and a big carrier.. However the timing is way off not mentioning about some delays in software updates might hinder the success.  

The Nokia Lumia 900 will not be the only Windows Phone at launch. T_Mobile already has the smaller sibling Lumia 710. Another high-end Windows Phone that AT&T will carry is the 4/7” HTC Titan 2 that will be available at $200 with contract.

There are probably many apps that let iPad users to take notes including the free feature rich PaperPort Notes, but what’s missing is the ones that let you sketch artsy drawings with simplicity and intuitive interface.

FifthyThree, a group of young developers has just released Paper, an iPad app that certainly can entertain and unleash that artist in you. The app is free and comes with a fountain pen tool and an eraser, four other tools (pencil, marker, pen and water color brush) costs $1.99 each. The app gives the ability to test them out first before you buy.

The app is organized by collection in a moleskin notebook. Open the notebook to start sketching. Use familiar flick, pinch motion to navigate around. The end results can go back to its notebook or share across Tumblr, Facebook, Twitter and email.  You can import back to PowerPoint,Word, etc.. to add type fonts.

When you are on the blank canvas, slide from bottom up to reveal the palette where you can choose the tool and color. Mistakes can be easily corrected with the eraser tool or two finger counter-clockwise gesture (replay).  You can use the finger to draw or best with a stylus. If you are not an artist, you will be surprised what the end result will be. You can use your drawing for many purposes such greeting card, to do list, add personal touch to your next business presentation or your Web site design, etc.

Once it’s ready, you can share your masterpiece to Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr or via plain old email.

In this version, there is no way to save your artworks, so send elsewhere if you want to preserve them. I wish the developer would add type fonts and provide the ability to erase the whole layer (e.g. when you use the pencil to sketch first your drawing before applying the ink or water color layer, upon completion, it would be nice to be able to remove the initial pencil sketch for a clean look).

Jarno Smeets, a Dutch engineer put out a video that went viral, claiming that he can fly using a custom-built bird wing system.

The technology is supposedly based on Nintendo Wii controller and an Android phone and fabric wings according to a press release.

The short video shows Jarno Smeets ran and took off while flapping his arms to create lift with his wings. He is wearing a GoPro camera on his helmet to show some “unshaken” aerial views

“I have always dreamed about this. But after 8 months of hard work, research and testing it all payed off,”  Smeets said on his YouTube page.

A Fun and Useful Real Estate App: HomeSnap

HomeSnap is a brand new iPhone app that is incredibly useful to find information about any home by snapping its picture.

The full feature viewing requires a quick registration; but you can test drive, just to walk outside and take a picture of your home, using the HomeSnap app on your iPhone.

The app then uses a combination of mobile phone GPS, compass to determine location and orientation and pulls MLS along with public records data to show you information such:

• Type (single,condo,bedrooms,bathrooms, lot, sizes)
• Property history (buy/sell transactions)
• Estimated value
• Appreciation potential score
• Investment potential score
• Property taxes
• Surrounding schools and rating
• Similar homes for sale on the market (show listing details and photos from MLS Multiple Listing Service..)

For my first testing, I found the app is very accurate in its estimation. I snapped a photo of our home, but it shows information of my next door neighbor home. Luckily, the app lets you manually adjust if it doesn’t locate the correct address. It is a very informative and fun app whether you are thinking about selling or buying home.. Or just by curiosity!

PayPal Unveils Square-Like Mobile Payment

Today PayPal announced its mobile register system for small merchants mimicking Square solution. PayPal, with 100 million customers worldwide, has been helping small businesses for 14 years for online transactions notably via eBay, but recently the company focuses on expanding to brick and mortar point of sale (Home Depot) and today, to small businesses. 

The new solution called “PayPal Here”, a new payments solution that will help small businesses get paid – whether they do business online, offline or on mobile. The solution consists of a small card reader dongle, an iPhone app and of course a PayPal account.

Merchants can accept payments by swiping cards with the card reader, or use a phone camera to scan and process cards and checks. It also allows them to invoice directly from the mobile app.

When asked about its differentiators comparing to the competing products, this is what PayPal has to say:

Adobe Photoshop Touch for iPad 2

The ubiquitous Adobe  Photoshop app will receive its mobile companion with the release of Photoshop Touch app for the iPad 2. Note that a version for Android has been available for sometime. The exclusive iPad 2-only app only costs $10 when it goes on sale in the app store.

The photo editor app will be the first of Adobe touch-optimized app series including: Collage, Debut, Ideas, Kuler and Proto.

The app features few core functions of photo editing  such as layers, selection tools, adjustments, and filters.  The less-precise touch finger selection can be enhanced by using Adobe new Scribble Select to easily keep and remove elements of an image as seen on the below introductory video.

Watch and Discuss TV Shows With Friends Via Yahoo’s IntoNow App

Yahoo just launched IntoNow service, an iOS and Android app that is capable of recognizing the TV show you’re watching through an audio fingerprint that it matches to its database. The app then provides related additional information about the show on your tablet screen and allows frictionless sharing to your social networks.

Yahoo is responding to an increasingly habit of viewers using a second screen to watch TV show to make TV watching a more social experience. The app is the result of Yahoo’s acquisition of  IntoNow company earlier this year for an amount of $20 million reportedly.

To date, the solution is considered the most innovative idea from the ailing Internet company to recapture its users, by tapping in to mainstream medias and the vast audience of Facebook, Twitter alike instead of creating its own.

IntoNow also offers its social network if you don’t belong to the Twitter or Facebook, should you want to participate to real-time discussion with other viewers.

Adam Cahan, the founder of IntoNow and now a vice president at Yahoo, explains how it works. If you’re watching a game, for example, the app can serve up stats for the particular teams who are playing, or even for individual players, he says. If you’re watching the news, the app will dig into the Yahoo network’s vast database of content–both original Yahoo content as well as that from its many partners–and serve up related stories to the stories being broadcast. If you’re watching a scripted show, the app can surface the most relevant tweets, including, for example, those from the show’s actors.

"What we’re looking at is: How do you take it to the next level?" Cahan says. "We have all of these devices. They have amazing capabilities and entirely new set of inputs (for us, it’s about audio inputs). So how do we use that signal to bring you more and more relevant experiences that are relevant to the context of what you’re doing."

Samsung Galaxy Note có bán từ công ty AT&T, Với màn hình ngoại cỡ lên tới 5,3 inch độ phân giải đạt chuẩn HD, Galaxy Note là smartphone Android có màn hình lớn nhất hiện nay và được ví là một chiếc điện thoại di động kiêm máy tính bảng. Màn hình cảm ứng Super AMOLED, máy được trang bị bút  stylish. Máy Note sử dụng CPU tốc độ 1,5GHz, 16GB. Máy Galaxy Note có khả năng 4G LTE.; Máy chụp hình 8MP sau và 2 MP trước.

LG Optimus VU cũng khá tương tự với Samsung Galaxy Note, với màn ảnh nhỏ hơn, Optimus VU có màn ảnh khổ 5”, có thể sử dụng bút stylus.  Smartphone nầy có dạng khá vuông với khổ máy 4:3 với độ dày chỉ có 8.5mm.

Máy cũng được trang bị với CPU  1.5GHz Dual core CPU; hổ trợ 4G LTE; máy ảnh 8MP phía sau và 1.3MP phía trước. máy dùng hệ điều hành  Android 3.2 sẽ được cập nhật Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich trong vòng 3 tháng sau khi ra.  LG có đến 32GB. 

Phablet war is heating up, ahead of Mobile World Congress 2012, LG just unveils its Android flagship, the 5” LG Optimus VU, an unique smartphone with 4:3 ratio at only 8.5mm thick.

Just like the slightly larger Samsung Galaxy Note (5.3”), the large smartphone Optimus VU comes with a stylus; 1.5GHz Dual core CPU; 4G LTE; 8MP/1.3MP cameras. Android 3.2 (upgrade to Android 4.0 ICS is in the works and coming  within 3 months) The LG has more generous 32GB of internal storage.  

What is a little bit strange is the 4:3 aspect ratio, that LG is touting:

“The large 5-inch display with bright 4:3 aspect ratio makes viewing documents, books, internet and multimedia contents easier and more comfortable. The 4:3 aspect ratio is optimized for viewing to grasp more at a glance and note taking to increase productivity in everyday life. Its unique built-in QuickClip™ hotkey allows users to conveniently capture screenshots and memos with a single push. Among many productive apps installed in the Optimus Vu:, the included Polaris Office allows users to open any document, spreadsheet or presentation while on the go.”

At CES 2012 AT&T and Samsung have introduced the Galaxy Note, a smartphone with large form factor that is intended to create another class of device between the tablet and phone. The Galaxy Note has been available on European and Asian market since last year.

The Galaxy Note 5.3”, a jack-of-all-trades smartphone + Tablet combined. Unlike the HTC TITAN with big screen but lower resolution, 4.7” 480×800, the Galaxy Note features  WXGA HD Super AMOLED supporting a respectable 1280 x 800 resolution, which might requires constant pinching & zooming to read small text.

The Galaxy Note is powered by a 1.5GHz dual core CPU, 4G LTE capable for the new AT&T network, 8MP/2MP cameras. 16GB of internal storage Since it is between the smartphone and tablet, the OS is still remains Android Gingerbread 2.3 instead of Honeycomb 3.2  seen in Android tablet. Hopefully the device will be upgradable to the latest Android version “Ice cream sandwich” when it becomes available.

An intriguing point here is the suite of software layer that enables note taking and other creative tasks using a stylus, which differentiates the device from others. 5.3”
