Apple iOS 4 introduces multi-tasking and other goodies, that might be all goodness if you have the latest hardware. For older and slower generations, iOS 4 could make the device performance sluggish. Unfortunately once upgraded, Apple does not give the option to go back.

Go to: Settings – General – Spotlight Search – deselect every option” and this will stop background indexing on the phone.

Theo nguồn tin từ Bloomberg, RIM, Research In Motion Ltd, nhà sản xuất điện thoại thông minh BlackBerry đang dự tính cho ra một thiết bị Tablet để cạnh tranh với Apple iPad.

Source from Bloomberg indicates that  Research In Motion Ltd., maker of the BlackBerry smartphones, plans to introduce a tablet form factor device as early as November to compete with the Apple iPad.

The rumored device from RIM could have a 9.7” screen, sporting WiFi and Bluetooth. It needs however, a companion Blackberry Smartphone to connect to the Internet when WiFi hotspot is not present.

With the runaway success of the Apple iPad, major device and software maker are working feverishly to roll out a similar form factor to catch up with the consumer demand and to avoid from falling too far behind as seen in the case of the smartphone space. 

This week Steve Ballmer Microsoft CEO also made a statement that his company is working as its job one urgency on a similar form factor solution.

This Tuesday RIM will have a press conference to announce its new Blackberry OS 6.0 and newer smartphones but we do not have confirmation if the company will unveil its tablet.

There are few non-Apple app stores available,  all of them require the iPhone to be “jailbroken”, which has become legal, but most casual users are not willing to go to that extend.

Bluetooth SIG đã tiết lộ chi tiết hơn về Samsung SGH-i917, một điện thoại thông minh tương tự như những điện thoại trong dòng Galaxy S, nhưng nó sẽ được hỗ trợ bởi  hệ điều hành sắp ra từ Microsoft, Windows phone 7.

Bluetooth SIG  revealed more details about the Samsung Cetus SGH-i917, a smartphone similar to the current Galaxy S line-up, but it will be powered by the upcoming Windows Phone 7 by Microsoft.

The phone features 4-inch 800×480 S-AMOLED, Bluetooth 2.1;  FM radio,  5 mega –pixel rear camera and a VGA  front facing camera; Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, and micro USB v2.0…

Microsoft has promises some great hardware in the line-up when Windows Phone 7 debuts sometime in Fall of 2011. The hardware partners included LG, HTC, Samsung, Dell and Asus.

Note the phone that Microsoft showed off lately was a developer unit, that will not be part of the new crop of WP7 superphones.

To make it more real-time imaging, today Google adds up-to-date weather display.  “The latest version projects images of rain and snow over the areas with those weather patterns as it’s actually happening! First enable the clouds layer, then zoom in to a particular location where it might be raining or snowing…. Currently, our precipitation data cover some areas in North America and Europe; you can see if it’s available in certain places by enabling the radar layer.”

Trong một tuyên bố chính thức, Sprint xác nhận là cái điệnthoại Sprint EVO 4G sẽ được nâng cấp lên Android 2.2 (tên mã là FroYo) vào tuần tới.

In a statement, Sprint confirms its Sprint EVO 4G will get upgraded to the latest Android 2.2 (codenamed FroYo) as soon as next week.

Sprint will be the first wireless carrier to bring the latest version of Android to its customers. The Android 2.2 software release provides a significant number of feature enhancements, including:

• Voice Dialing Over Bluetooth.
• Application Storage on External Memory, giving users more storage room for all their apps.
• Camera 4-way rotation allows the camera icons to rotate with the camera.
• Improved Browser Performance including a faster JavaScript engine and Flash 10x Support improving the user’s ability to view videos and available content associated with web pages.

From Sprint:

Sprint will begin sending update notifications to users in waves beginning Tuesday, Aug. 3 and the upgrade should be available for all HTC EVO 4G users by the middle of August.

The notification will let the users know that the update is available and it will provide the simple two-step over-the-air download process.

1. Users will receive a notification that Android 2.2 is available for download.
2. Once the user has downloaded the update, they will be prompted to install the update. The user will be notified that their device will be disabled during the installation process. The phone will be ready to use once the process completes.

For those who just can’t wait to get Android 2.2, there will be an easy user initiated option to download the upgrade. Customers can access the software update through their HTC EVO 4G under the Settings Menu> System Updates > HTC Software Update. This will initiate the three-step process also.

At the press event that takes place on Tuesday, August 3 in New York, RIM is expected to announce a new BlackBerry handset running on a brand new Blackberry OS 6.0. The new combo hardware & OS is designed to compete more effectively with Apple’s iPhone and Google’s Android smartphones.

Rumors have already been leaked to the Blogosphere about the new device identified as the BlackBerry 9800 (AKA BlackBerry Torch) featuring a touchscreen and a vertical slide out keyboard similar to the Palm Pre.

The new Blackberry OS 6.0 will be more consumer friendly, better Social Network integration and a WebKit-based browser.

Sprint has a new product in the work that might add the phone functionality to an Apple iPod Touch. The “Sprint Peel” is essentially a sleeve or a jacket that can go on the back of an iPod Touch. The sleeve provides Sprint ED-VO 3G network hotspot.

Since the iPod Touch is simmer than the iPhone, adding a sleeve might not present much bulk to the device.

There is no mention about its possible voice capability, however Skype can be used with an included mic on the sleeve.    A similar set would would also be great for the iPad WiFi.

For the last couple of years, YouTube has limited video length up to 10 minutes to avoid copyrighted contents to be uploaded accidentally. But today that limit seems to get a little slack. Starting today, all users can upload videos that can go up to 15 minutes in length.

If you’re uploading a video that was previously rejected for being too long, you’ll have to go into “My Videos” and delete it before attempting to upload it again

To celebrate the event,  YouTube encourages you to take full advantage of this new time limit by making a video of your “15 minutes of fame.” Imagine that this video is all the world will ever know about you: what would you want to communicate?  Tag your video with “yt15minutes,” upload it by Wednesday, August 4, and YouTube will select a handful of people to truly gain their 15 minutes of fame by featuring them on the YouTube homepage in a future spotlight.
